Squatter's Rights

(Here's a post I started a few months ago... thought I should go ahead and finish it up before I move on to our most recent trip... Don't worry, Marci, it's coming!)

You learn a lot about how patient you truly are when you travel with a two year old. This was our first road trip since Katelyn was 7 weeks old. Boy was it interesting! I remember many family road trips from my days as a kid. I remember one in particular, where both of my parents ended up absolutely despising the soundtrack to "Annie" because, by the time we got home, I wasn't the only one who had it memorized. To this day, I'm sure neither one would ever voluntarily sit through "Annie."

I have a few CD's for Kate. I've been pleasantly surprised to find that kid's songs are easily palatable, once you become a parent. I think it must be something that changes in your DNA once you give birth. Much like the keen sense you suddenly acquire of what's going on two rooms away. Martin may not agree, however, as he was pretty sick of the song "Froggy Went A Courtin'" by the time we reached Yosemite.

Between the constant request for Kate's CD's and the rushed requests for using the potty, (potty training is tricky business when your traveling!)... our 7 hour journey felt more like 12 hours. But all parties survived, and we enjoyed our four days in Yosemite.

It was our first trip to this beautiful country. The waterfalls were at full force, and the weather couldn't have been nicer. Of course, the company was a highlight, as this was our annual trip with our favorite travel companions, Uncle Max and Aunt Jen. We hiked, we biked, we drove,... and we stood in awe at the beauty around us (of course it was momentary awe, as we were constantly making sure Kate was staying away from the waterfalls/rushing rivers, not walking off the side of a cliff, and keeping her hands from touching the squirrels.)

Here are a few pictures from that lovely trip. What wonderful memories of another fabulous vacation.

Just the five of us.

What a beautiful playground God has given us!

Anyone up for a bike ride?

And we're off!

Great hiking companions.

Do you see what I see?

What a trooper!
