The Rice Box

One thing I absolutely love about this stage in Kate's life is that it takes very little to keep her occupied. About four months ago I found this shallow box, filled it with rice, and put a few measuring spoons in it. Katelyn loved it! Four months later, I've loosened up a bit. We no longer go outside with it (original rule #1), we no longer put a towel underneath (original rule #2), and I no longer sit with her every time she uses it (original rule #3). I think it's a good testament to the evolution of motherhood. Katelyn now raids my container drawer and uses what she can find to play with in the rice box. As long as it gives me time to work in the kitchen, I'm a happy mom! (Although Martin did mention the other night that he had rice stuck to the bottom of his feet, and that maybe we should get a sandbox for the backyard instead. As for me, I'm happy with my date with the broom each naptime!)
