The Parrot on the Bus

Katelyn loves music, and I love teaching her songs that she can sing "with" me. "The Wheels on the Bus" is a great example of the type of song we sing "together." I'll sing, "The baby on the bus goes..." and Kate will add, "waa, waa, waa". It's very cute and a lot of fun for both of us.

She's gotten pretty good at "The Wheels on the Bus", and yesterday morning after breakfast we were singing this song together. When we got to the parents on the bus, who "shhhhh" at the crying baby, Kate went over to her toy basket and pulled out her stuffed parrot. She put her finger to his beak, and said "shh, shh, shh". I dismissed this as just a 17-month-old's short attention span, and figured our little song was done,... that is until I realized that she thinks it's the parrots on the bus who "shh, shh, shh!" How do you explain to a toddler the difference between parents and parrots?! [Try saying the words out loud and you'll see what I mean. =)]
